A planning workshop held in Colombo on March 24, 2025, marked the official launch of the PEEB Cool project in Sri Lanka. This initiative, aimed at increasing energy efficiency in the building sector, will be implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, and the Ministry of Environment.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders from the building energy efficiency sector to review and provide input on the project’s operational plan. Presentations included GIZ’s PEEB Enabling Facility and AFD’s PEEB Investment Facility, building upon insights from a scoping study conducted in 2024.
The event marked the first coordinated step towards implementation and led to the identification of five major activity areas:
- Benchmarking and data management
- Energy efficiency building code enforcement support
- Development of a building rating system
- Financial models for building energy efficiency
- Integration with the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) process
PEEB Cool represents a crucial effort to transform Sri Lanka’s building sector by embedding energy efficiency and climate-friendly practices into policies, investments, and implementation on the ground.

Stay tuned for all Sri Lanka implementation updates!
