A workshop organized by PEEB brought stakeholders together to discuss the challenges and solutions to an energy efficiency transformation in the Costa Rican building sector in January 21 and 23. As a result, the Ministry of environment and energy (Ministerio de Ambiente y Energía (MINAE), Gobierno de Costa Rica) decided to set up a committee with participants from different sectors to develop the National Strategy for Energy Efficiency. A workplan for the building sector is expected by the end of 2025.

Energy Efficiency is essential for Costa Rica to achieve its ambitious climate targets: the country has pledged to decarbonize the energy sector and increase resilience to climate change risks. With the support of PEEB Cool, barriers to large-scale deployment of energy efficiency in the country will be identified and addressed in the upcoming strategy.
The workshop counted with the participation of relevant stakeholders of the Costa Rican buildings sector. Besides MINAE, the Ministry of Human Settlements of Costa Rica (Ministerio de Vivienda y Asentamientos Humanos), the Costa Rica Green Building Council and the Professional Council of Architects and Engineers of Costa Rica (Colegio Federado de Ingenieros y Arquitectos de Costa Rica) participated in the session. They will also be involved in the next steps of the development of the working plan.
