PEEB has released a new Handbook for the Development of Article 6 Projects in the Buildings Sector, providing practical guidance to help practitioners and policymakers unlock the potential of international carbon markets to finance emission reductions in buildings.
Article 6 of the Paris Agreement provides a framework for countries to cooperate in cutting greenhouse gas emissions, including through international carbon trading. While buildings account for a major share of global emissions, the sector has so far played only a minor role in these markets. This new Handbook aims to change that.
Developed to complement PEEB’s White Paper on Methodologies and Viability for Article 6 Projects in the Buildings Sector, the Handbook translates complex technical insights into clear, practical guidance. It equips stakeholders with the knowledge and tools to design, fund, and implement Article 6 projects that deliver measurable emission reductions.
The publication offers:
- An introduction to Article 6 and carbon market fundamentals;
- A typology of potential Article 6 project types in the buildings sector;
- A six-step guide to developing and approving projects;
- And practical tools and resources to support implementation.
