The 20th of November marked the launch of the process for creating North Macedonia’s National Public Building Inventory – a comprehensive database that will transform how the state plans, invests in, and manages its public buildings.
“Investors – domestic or international – finance what is measurable. This inventory will give North Macedonia a clear picture of what it needs, while also providing a strong basis to attract financing for renovating public buildings, reducing energy consumption, and improving services for citizens. GIZ remains fully committed to this cooperation.”

Public buildings – hospitals, schools, administrative facilities, cultural institutions – are among the largest energy consumers in the country.
Improving the way these buildings are managed is essential because the public sector has a responsibility to lead by example — to demonstrate what rational, sustainable, and responsible energy management looks like.
The inventory will enable:
• A systematic assessment of the energy performance of every public building
• Clear prioritization for renovation and modernization
• Development of an investment portfolio
• More efficient budget planning
• Better-quality public services for citizens
